Can bone scan detect spine metastasis?

Hello All.  My wife was diagnosed a few weeks back with IDC.  She'll be undergoing a double mastectomy in a few weeks during which they will do a sentinel node biopsy as well.
We met with her breast surgeon last Friday and she's sending my wife for a bone scan tomorrow.  My wife has had severe upper back and neck pain since last September (initially diagnosed as lyme disease, later discredited as not lyme).

From what I've been reading, back/neck pain is a common symptom of spine metastasis (among many other things).  So my question is, would a bone scan detect whether the cancer has spread to spine?  Even if it isn't the test to be 100% certain, would it detect abnormalities in the spine as well or is it really just limited to finding cancers in the bone?

Thank You

This bone scan is a nuclear bone scan so it is looking for things to light up. I know I was thinking it would maybe find any bone stuff, but it turned out like a fuzzy X-Ray.

Ok, thanks.  She's getting scanned today so I guess we'll see that fuzzy x-ray soon enough and find out.
