Cancer after tram fap

Cancer after tram fap

I developed stage IV cancer 6 months after the tram flap, in the exact spot the two muscles cross.  I am so pisse!  I was 10 years fine after a double mastectomy and only had the tram flap because I was tired of the saline implants and the surgeon said I would look good.  So would his bank account!!  You can't imagine the pain of having abdominal ascites in an area so small!!!  I would tell NO ONE to get this operation.  You never know if your cancer will return.

This discussion is related to Removal of Tram Flap.

This is a very unfortunate situation and I'm so sorry to hear that you are going thru this. I feel that there is NO way your Stage IV cancer developed in only 6 months nor was it due in any way to the surgery you had at that time. I will say that most likely this is the reason it was discovered which in one way could be considered a good thing. Please keep in mind that every person's experience is different and your last statement is 100% true .... you never know if your cancer will return; I would also add "when". We can't second guess our choices but I firmly believe that your choice to have the Tram Flap had nothing to do with the recurrence of your cancer even though it does complicate things as far as your symptoms are concerned. I hope that treatment will be forthcoming and you will be able to find some measure of comfort in spite of the path you are now on .  Kindest regards ....

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It sounds as if because you had the TRAM surgery the pain and discomfort from the abdominal ascites is greater than it might have been had  you not had the TRAM procedure - not that you blame the surgery for your cancer. I got what you're saying. It's impossible to predict such an outcome.

The tightness of the abdomen can only exacerbate the pain from the accumulating fluid. Are you able to get drained more frequently? A Stage IV cancer is always difficult to manage - I hope you're getting all the help you need and that your pain and discomfort are being addressed appropriately. My thoughts are with you.
