Cause for Concern?

I recently received a call from both my primary care doctor as the imaging center that performed my original yearly mammogram that I should schedule another appointment as more films were needed on left breast (biopsy performed 2 years ago, but non-cancerous).    (I was also told that I must schedule my appointment on a day that the same radiologist that reviewed the initial films and wrote the initial report is in the office).  While visiting primary doctor on another matter about 1 1/2 weeks later, I was asked to visit the imaging center, which is in the same building, to get the films on the breast taken care of.  I spent at least 30 minutes in the office, between the mammogram and sonogram rooms, while both technician where asked repeatedly by the radiology to do more and more tests/take more and more pictures.  After a few more minutes, I was approached by a very obvious tentative and nervous sonogram tech who stated that the doctor "thinks" my mammogram is normal but because my tissue keeps moving and thus changes with every pictures, I have to promise to come back for more pics in 6 months.  I get a diagnostic radiologist report that simply read "Your recent mammography examination performed was reviewed by a radiologist and revealed an area that requires further evaluation.  While most of these finding are benign (non cancer), a follow-up study in 6 months is recommended for confirmation."

I'm trying not to worry, but I've been going to this facility for many years and this has never happened before.  Nor has the writing up of the report ever been so vague, particularly when I've been asked to come back for a 6-month follow up.  Perhaps it was the delivery of the message that has thrown me for a loop e.g. "thinks".

The letters that are sent out are for the most part, form letters. You should always discuss in detail with your Physician the entire Radiology report and not rely on letters or comments by the Technicians. I'm sure the 6 month re-check is mentioned in the report that was sent to your own Dr. 3 or 6 month
re-checks are not at all unusual to track any changes that may occur and if none are found then you can usually go back to the routine yearly exams.   Regards ....
