Charateristics of scar tissue?

I had a lumpectomy for a small (0.7 cm) IDC at the end of May.  There were large clear margins, but the tumour markers were ER-/PR- and Her2+++; I received chemotherapy (TCH) followed by 16 radiation treatments and 4 "boosters", finishing the radiation on Nov. 7/08.  I am still having Herceptin once every 3 weeks for the next 7 months.    I noticed a hardening under my lumpectomy incision that does not move away from the incision and have a little bit of pain at the incision (there was no infection and the pain may be because I keep "feeling" for a lump).  The hardening is not round, but seems elongated along about 1.5 inches of the incision.  I have an appointment with the oncpologist in a few weeks, but wonder if I should be escalating the appointment.  Are there any characteristics of scar tissue that would distinguish it from a new "lump"?

Thank you in advance for responding.  I hate being this nervous, but just can't help it!

Dear GS59, Over the internet without ability to evaluate it is difficult to assess.  What you describe could very well be scar tissue it is best to bring it to the attention of your doctor who can evaluate.  You may want to check with your doctor to see about having your appointment a little sooner - for your peace of mind.
