Chemotherapy after" Modified Mastactomy"

How long may be the recommended interval period for resuming "Chemotherapy" after performing "Modified Mastectom" in which a couple of  axiliary lymph nodes also removed ?

I have also had modified radical mastectomy and am going to take my last cycle of taxotere on 10th jan. you think I would need radiation. though ofcourse my oncologist would guide me but just wondering if there is rule that is followed for radiation. to give or not to give. would appreciate a response. regards, sanru

Hi there.

The chemotherapy should ideally start about 3-6 weeks after the operation or when the surgical wound has already physically healed.  After 6 weeks, the effectiveness of chemotherapy may be decreased and the overall benefit might not be realized.  After the chemotherapy you may also need radiation treatment if you have positive nodes.

It is suggested that you follow up with your surgeon closely during the first few weeks post op to monitor for the healing of the surgical site.
