Co-Enzyme Q10

I've heard of a recent study giving Breast Cancer patients CoEnzyme Q10, where it either shrunk their tumors considerably and also prevented the cancer from returning.  What is your opinion on this?  Can you take it during radition since it's a cell promoter?  And does it hurt to take 200 - 300 mgs?  Thank you for any information you can give me.

Dear demj:  Because CoEnzyme Q10 is not regulated by the FDA, little is actually known about whether it offers any benefit or risk to the patient.  The trials that have been done are small and not well designed.  As such, we would not recommend CoEnzyme Q10 unless it were part of a clinical trial.  However, you can discuss this with your doctor.  The following is from the National Cancer Institute Center for Alternative and Integrative Medicine.  There are hyperlinks within the article so you can read it by going to the link following the title.
