Concerned about a lump in breast had clear ultrasound

I am 32 yearsl old, and about 2 weeks ago I found a breast mass in my right breast, with one lump in it that seems to have grown a bit. I went to my doctor and was sent to have a mammogram and then an ultrasound done. All they told me was that they didn,t see anything suspicious. I have recently learned that women my age have very dense breasts, and this worries me. I have an appointment to go see a surgeon to see if I need a biopsy done. I feel I deserve an ansewer to what this,  a cyst or fat deposit, something? I feel as though my doctor is not taking this seriously because of my age, she keeps telling me its nothing to worry about, even though she said my lymph node in my armpit seemed a little swollen. I guess I am going though all the normal routines, byt my stress level is getting worse and I reaaly would like some information on younger women and breast cancer and how they detect it and how aggressive should I be with my doctors in giving me a definite ansewer. thank you!

Dear Goett:  Can your doctor feel the lump as well?  There may be higher or lower suspicion based upon how this feels.  Although young women typically do have dense breast tissue, your mammogram report would have indicated that it could not be read due to the density.  So, from what you are saying, I suspect that your mammogram was readable.  In order to get more information about the origin of this lump, you should request copies of the reports from both the mammogram and the ultrasound, then sit down with your physician and discuss what it means.  If the lump can be felt and you are still worried after discussing the reports, it can be biopsied.

I am waiting to go to a breast surgeon now, with no ansewers as of yet, and very nervous. Can nyone tell me what a breast mass feels like, I have read all the articles, but I am still curious to her from someone who has really experienced it. Mine seems to be growing is that a sign of cancer?

Hey,
I am in the same boat as you on this. I have a lump in my breast that my doctor can feel. Both tests came back normal on the mammo and ultrasound. My General Practitioner sent me to a surgeon and he too, felt the lump in my left breast. He has now scheduled me for a core biopsy the week Jan 13th. He said that anything that can be felt, even though the tests come back "normal" , should be biopsied. He assured me that this is the only way to know if this iump is anything to be concerned about. I am 34 and found the lump in Nov. 2002. It has taken me this long to get to this point because the Doctors kept sending me for rechecks on the ultrasound. Please, do not become complacent in your efforts to find out what it is. I am scared to go next week for the biopsy, but at least once the pathology results come back I will have an answer. BEST OF LUCK!!!!

Hi, in 1999 I found a lump on my left breast.  Nothing showed on the mammogram and ultrasound.   I was sent to a surgeon who did a biopsy.  Thank God it turn out to be fibroid tissue.  The results took 2 weeks, what a stressful 2weeks. I also went to all these sights which only scared me more then I already was. The lump was hard. I hope this makes you feel a little and at ease.  I know how scared you must be.  If you want you can email me any questions you might have.  I'm not an expert but I have been where you are now.  I'll pray for you. Good luck.

I'm 31 and also in the same boat.  Do to a benign hyperlastic lumpectomy (big word for pre cancer) at age 18 I asked my gyno for a routine sonogram (I haven't had one done in about 5 years).  They found 4 solid masses between 6 and 10 mm.  Also, 3 septated (fluid with tissue strands through it) cysts.  I asked to have a mamogram (mammogram) and this was done two weeks ago. My mamogram (mammogram) results were to dense to read.  My doc suggests doing nothing for 6 months.  I feel like I would like to know something sooner and wondered if I should push for a biopsy.  That is how they found the hyerplasia the last time.  Also, you my not know it but you can get a copy of the radiologist report from your doctor, all you have to do is request it and sign a form.

I am going to the MD with my girlfriend today....There is a large mss in her breast and we are uncertain what it is.  They plan to operate regardless of its content so I'm not sure if they're going to biopsy this mass or not.  The MD's that we've dealt with thus far have been general and vague regarding explanations of this mass based on the mammogram (again a young woman with dense breasts making the reading more difficult as I've been told).  What type of questions can I ask that will help pull info from these MD's?  I'm not sure what terms I need to use or if I'll know what the Md's are referring to when explaining. What terms should I keep my ears open for? Thanks for any help you can offer.
