Cyst

Had a mamogram (mammogram) last friday.  Had to go back and get another mamo on my left breast and an ultrasound.  After the ultrasound, tech took it to radiologist.  Was told that a cyst was found and the radiologist felt that nothing should be done now--just keep an eye on it with yearly mamogram (mammogram).  Do I need to pursue this further?

A cyst is by definition benign.Ultrasound tests are very good in detecting these lumps.
As your doctor has advised you,just follow his recommendation, also keep doing your SBE (Self Breast exam)every month,one week after you start your menses.If you see that the cyst has enlarged considerably or it becomes too painful,you should contact your doctor who could perform a fine needle aspiration.
Try to avoid caffeine ( coffee,chocolate,cola beverages) and limit your salt intake too.
I don't think that this matter needs to be pursued, you have a benign cyst which does not turn into cancer.But if you see any changes,don't wait one year for your next mammogram,contact your doctor for another evaluation.

Thank you so much for your quick response.  I've never felt this lump before.  I've been in menopause for about 8 years, but I am a big coffee drinker and love chocolate.  You have helped  put my mind at ease.  Thank you again.
