DCIS Lumpectomy

DCIS Lumpectomy

Dear Dr.,
2 days ago I had a lumpectomy. The orginial biopsy showed that I had DCIS, Stage 0, low grade, not invasive and thus the reason for the lumpectomy.  My question concerns the pathology report that I will receive now after the lumpectomy. My surgeon told me that I will hear in 5 to 7 days if the stage is upgraded and if they found any invasive cancer.  What are the chances that the upcoming pathology report will find additional findings that the original biopsy report did not find?  I thought I was in the clear with Stage 0, but now I am worried.
Thank you so much.

Final staging is cannot be done until the Pathology report on the entire secimen in complete. There are many factors go into the staging process. A biopsy takes only a very small sample of the suspicious area so only a limited amount of information can be obtained. Being "in the clear" is a very optimistic view where cancer is concerned. There is no way to speculate on what the Path report will show .... it's just another waiting game and the waiting is said to be the worst. Keep positive thoughts and wait as patiently as humanly possible ...  Good luck
