Debris in Milk Duct after bloody discharge (had biopsy)

Debris in Milk Duct after bloody discharge (had biopsy)

I just am looking for some information and any would be greatly appreciated.  I have had two children in eighteen months.  My youngest is now 10 months old.  I never breastfed either of them for the fact that I have extremely inverted nipples (from birth) and it wasn't possible.

About two months ago I developed sever pain in my left nipple area and it got very swollen (it did not get red).  Just swollen and very painful.  I did not get a fever.  I was in so much pain that I went into shower and I get rid of the pus and blood (sorry kind of gross) on my own.  I probably shouldn't have done it on my own but my youngest was having an MRI the next morning and I couldn't take the pain.

I called the OBGYN two days later (I couldn't the next day because of my daughter's MRI) and he made me come right in.  He sent me for a mammo and ultrasound.  On both the mammo and ultrasound I had a dilated duct with debris and I had a lymph node that was reactive.

I just assumed this was all an infection...

I went and saw the breast dr. and she looked at everything and decided to start with a biopsy of the lymph node, which was gone when she went to do it.

She sent me for an MRI for precautionary measures and told me I would just follow up with the ultrasound for the duct that was dilated with debris.

I guess during the MRI the duct that had debris in it and was dilated lit up.  I was then immediately given a biopsy last week.  I am going in the next few days for the results.

Basically what I am asking is what are they looking for?  They aren't giving me much information (I guess they don't want to worry me)

I kind of am looking for some more insight on what this could be....the good, bad, and ugly.  I have seen many things online.

Thanks for any insight that you may have.

The enlarged lymph node could have been due to the fact that there was some sign of infection present. I don't believe that "they" are keeping anything from you for any reason .... test results are as important to the Dr. as they are to the patient. Until the results of your biopsy are final there is nothing to tell you. If debris was found in one of the milk ducts then that could be exactly what the problem is but that can certainly be treated. Ducts that contain debris are usually dilated due to this problem and often will produce a bloody discharge.  Regards ....
