Delay tamoxifin(tamoxifen) to have a baby

by Camsmomme, Jun 08, 2001 12:00AM
I am young with bc (stage 1).  28 years old.  I would like to delay tamoxifin (tamoxifen) to have a baby. And then go on it after. My er/pr+ was 90% positive for estrogen and 80% for progestrone.

I am premenopausal and think that maybe tamoxifin (tamoxifen) would be better for me in a few years anyway.

at the same time, I know that pregnancy increases estrogen levels.  I do not wish to feed my cancer, but if it is all gone (I hope) maybe it wouldn't hurt.

Can I delay tamoxifin (tamoxifen) and get pregnant even though I am er/pr+?

Delaying children has been harder than facing cancer although I want to live more than just have children

Dear Camsmomme, This is a decision you would need to make after discussion with your oncologist, and your significant other.   It is generally recommended that pregnancy be delayed 2 to 3 years after adjuvant treatment.  The delay is not because of the influence of the pregnancy on the cancer, but rather to delay childbearing until after the time of greatest risk of recurrence of the tumor.
