Hi Im new here to this site. Here for another question of my own but saw yours and wanted to add a comment. I was diagnosed 3 yrs ago at age 32. Please watch yourself carefully, I too was told I had dense breasts. My left breast hurt and had a large hard spot (not a "lump") Hurt to lay on it. I was told from 3 different docs it was just "dence" and I was too young. I lived with it for 1 1/2 years till I insisted on Mammo. First year showed nothing.(found out later it did show white spots doc called dence tissue) Got worse but felt stupid asking doctor again. Waited another year. Finally had to insist on 2nd mammo. My breast was full of the white tissue. Found califications. Had biopsy. All core samples had cancer. Actually DCIS (ductal carcinoma in Situ) So bad had to have Bi-lateral mastectomy. 1mm Invasive found at that time. I am gratefull to have insisted on better answers from docs. Second and third opinions are a must! If everything comes back fine at least youve covered everything! Thick, dence tissue and pain CAN be warning signs. You are the only person who knows your body. Listen to it.Thanks!

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting. I will be 31 next month and I am going through the exact same thing that some of you are. The more information I ask to doctors and radiation specialists and etc, the more confused I become. Just this past Monday I went for an ultrasound at the breast clinic in Montclair. Dr. said I

I am 28 and  just recently had an ultra sound on my right breast b/c my gyn felt a nodule. He said it was probably nothing  but sent me to have it u/s anyways. They did the u/s at the breast center and the rad. said that it appeared to be just some dense fatty or fibrous tissue. No cyst or anything abnormal. I have also felt this hard place to for quite a while. I drink a good bit of caffeine, could this have caused it? Also they did not do a mammagram. I was afraid that the dense tissue could be masking something?

Dear sjulia:  It is not uncommon for breast tissue to be assymmetrical (one breast more dense than the other).  Also, sometimes this tissue can become more prominent during certain times in a menstrual cycle related to some of the hormones.  Young women tend to have dense breast tissue.  As they age, the dense tissue is replaced by more fatty tissue.  Also, many women have breast tissue that feels lumpy.  As you examine your breasts, you will try to indentify changes in how the breasts feel.  Most breast centers do their best to schedule people with new palpable lumps (lumps that can be felt) within a short time frame.  Though 5 days can seem an eternity mentally, it is generally a "safe" waiting period.  If you continue to be concerned about this right breast density, we would recommend that you be seen by a surgeon in a cancer center who takes care of breast cancer patients for further evaluation.
