Dents and spots

I just recently had a mammogram.  My doctor called me today to let me know that she saw some spots and dents and that I would need to get a diagnostic mammogram done.  Should I be concerned?  Could this be cancer?

Hi there.

These spots or dents on the mammogram are non-specific findings and are not tantamount to cancer.  You may ask your doctor or radiologist regarding what he thinks is the etiology of the mammogram findings.  The findings should be reported in terms of the BIRADS category.  Based on the reporting, the radiologist may recommend biopsy if he thinks that there is reason to suspect cancer.  The additional mammogram to be done I think, will be just to obtain different views of the breast image.  For now, I suggest you relax and follow your doctor's recommendations.
