Diep reconstruction

by rk713, Jul 11, 2009 09:46AM
I am 3 weeks post -op from a double masectomy with Diep Flap reconstruction.  I am very lucky , everrything went very well and I am healing quickly.  Does anyone know how long it takes for the breasts to become softer and move more like regular breasts?  I know the numbness will take a long time to go away if ever.
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I had my DIEP flap reconstruction 9 weeks ago. Mine move the same as they did when they were breast tissue and are very soft to the touch. Wait until some of the swelling goes down. Mine went from a D to a full C in the last week or so, so don't be surprised by the changes still taking place. I get the nips done in August.

Every week things get better Ro. One day you're going to feel strong and from that point on life gets very much better!

Where did you go for your surgery?

I went to The Center for Restorative Breast Surgery in New Orleans www.breastcenter.com

Very well worth the trip for me from Florida! I almost didn't do the surgery because I hated all the results I'd seen until I saw the DIEP results in person. Microsurgery rocks!  Glad I did it :)

Best wishes
