Dilated mammary gland

Dilated mammary gland

I am 51 years old, I had a mammo Oct 06 and recently Oct 09.  They said they saw something on the mammo that wasn't there in 06 so I had another mammo and ultrasound.  My dotor called and said it looked like a dilated milk gland and to follow up on it in six omnths with another mammo and ultrasound.  What is a dilated milk gland?  Should I do what the doctor says or look inot it further.  Thank you

It's just exactly what it says .... behind the nipple there are several milk ducts (glands).Sometimes these ducts 9 (small sacs) can become clogged with material (dead cells, etc.) and then become enlargerd (dilated). I would follow the recommendation of th 6 month follow-up unless you experience some type of symptom involving that area of the breast. By the way, yearly Mammograms are the standard recommendation, not every 3 years. I would advise you to have Mammos yearly after this issue is resolved.  Regards ....
