Do they test tissue removed during breast reduction surgery?

Hello,
I recently asked a question about wether or not breast reduction surgery can cause microcalcifications, and received a very helpful answer. I now am wondering how my wifes doctor came to the conclusion that she needed a mammogram for signs of microcalcification. I understand that they cannot determine wether or not you have them by sight, and that they are not large enough to feel through a self breast exam, so i am wondering how the doctor determined that she has microcalcifications. Do they test the tissue removed during breast reduction surgery? i am guessing that this is the only way for him to come to this conclusion. She is 29 years old, and has never had a mammogram, so there is no history for them to go by. Also, are microcalcifications normal in a healthy 29 year old woman? Your answer will be much appreciated....thanks, concerned husband.

Dear JamesN869:  In most cases where any tissue is removed, it is sent to pathology for evaluation.  You might check with the surgeon to confirm that this was the case for your wife.
