Endometrial Ablation and Breast Cancer.

Does anyone know if having an endometrial ablation increases the risk of breast cancer. I had a mammogram the beginning of Oct and it was fine. I had an endometrial ablation the end of Oct. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 months later. I'm just curious if the change in hormones could have caused the tumors. Also the doctor had me on progesterone for a short time before doing the ablation because of my heavy bleeding. I have not had a period since the ablation

I would say the answer is no. It would take more than 5 months for breast cancer to grow to a size large enough to show on an imaging device. To show on a PET scan it's got to be 1/2 centimeter and that means 3 million cancer cells. Hopefully that gives you an idea of what could be.....

If your cancer is progesterone positive I'd say that taking it didn't help things.

My sister had an ablation and a year later started bleeding again so she ended up taking the big step and going for a complete hysterectomy/oopherectomy to reduce her risk of BC and Ovarian cancer. Both unfortunately run in our family. She is doing well and is glad of her choice. I'm thrilled she chose to do that since I'm a BC survivor and was worried for her health.
