Extensive DCIS with positive node

Extensive DCIS with positive node

I had a mastectomy due to extensive disease/ all four quadrants of High Grade (3) DCIS with necrossis.  Also had a palpable mass and am er/pr negative.
My lymph node came back positive NOi+  after CKC stain.

92 slides were looked at and no microinvasion found.  Since only 10% o the breast is looked at by pathologists, then this could be a misdiagnosis.  However, Doctors want to say that cells also can be displaced by needle biopsy. Since there is not a laboratory assay that will correctly differentiate true metatasis from those that are likely to have any impact on distant disease, shouldn't chemo be a reasonable choice?

Dear meri265, Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a non-invasive cancer and would not have the ability to spread.  Having found cancer in the lymph nodes it is likely that there was a component of invasive cancer particularly that there was "extensive disease".  Decisions regarding adjuvant chemotherapy are based on several factors.  An opinion from a medical oncologist who can evaluate all of the results specific to your case would be your best course of action.
