Extreme Pain in right breast

by TeeTee724, Aug 22, 2008 05:49PM
This isn't the best title for my topic. I have been experiencing extreme pain in the right breast that has put me in the hospital overnite. I had 2 ultrasounds on the breast and a mamogram (mammogram). The drs. said the lymph nodes in my right breast close to my arm pit (that's where the worst pain in the breast is located) are irratated and inflammed.  I am on pain meds.. What comes next? Why do/how  lymph nodes get like this? I am a 38 year old  female with a 16 year old son. My medical conditions are complex regional pain syndrome (that effects my legs), endrometrious, low thyroid, and migraines. I am on meds. to control all the above. They ruled out breast cancer. But everything I do makes me flinch in pain in the breast. My left breast is fine. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi there.

If cancer is indeed ruled out, then the most common cause for lymph node enlargement in this area is the presence of infection.  Some areas of the breast tissues can be infected, as well as some sebaceous glands in the armpit area.  Aside from pain medications, this would respond well with a course of antibiotics.

You may also want to discuss with your doctors regarding performing a biopsy procedure if these persists.  Rarely, cancer can still present without any breast mass with just lymph node enlargement.

Regards.

The Drs. ruled out infection with blood tests. They also said they would be able to see an infection with the 2 ultrasounds they performed on my breast. Is there any other way to see an infection that the drs. could have missed?
Thanks
