Father diagnosed with BC

Father diagnosed with BC

Although I don't know the specifics yet, my father has been diagnosed with BC. My question is, if it's my father that has BC does that increase my risk? I have been diagnosed with ADH in both breasts and have very dense breast & fibrocystic breasts. I know the ADH gives me an increased risk of getting BC in the future but now that my dad has it does that put me at a higher risk. I know it does if your mother, sister or grandmother has BC but I can't find any info pertaining to a father with BC. Also, what about my brothers, do they have an increased risk of getting BC because of my dad?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Dear jlady:  There are some instances where men can be carriers of the BRCA gene.  In cases of male breast cancer, it is important to review the family tree and see if his mother or sisters or others in the family have had breast cancer.  It may be worth speaking with a genetic counselor if there are other cases of cancer in the family.  The ADH is a risk factor for you.  As your father is a first degree relative, this may also be pertinent to your risk.
