Fibroadenoma

I'm 17 years old and recently had a sonogram to determine that there was a 5cm mass in my breast and now I'm on my way to a biopsy and I'm a little nervous. I was informed by my doctor that since it's large, there was a probability that it would be surgically removed, especially since it is continuing to get larger.

I was just hoping someone could help me out a little bit on what surgery is like for the removal or if it's even recommended? Also, what is the biopsy like?

HI, WHILE I WAS COOKING BREAKFAST THIS MORNING, MY 15 Y/O DAUGHTER RAN INTO THE KITCHEN, YELLING "I HAVE A LUMP ON MY BREAST". I REALLY CANT REMEMBER WHAT MY INITIAL REACTION, BUT I KNOW I TOLD HER TO CALM DOWN AS TEARS STREAMED DOWN MY FACE UNCONTROLLABLY. I DONT KNOW IF ITS BEEN ALL THE EMOTIONS SURFACING FROM MY MOM BEING DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CA ON DECEMBER 19, 2008.  I IMMIDIATELY PAGED MY DR WHO CALLED ME RIGHT BACK. HE ALSO SAID ITS UNLIKELY FOR IT TO BE BREAST CA AND SUGGESTED FIBROADENOMA. GOING TO DO SOME TESTS TO  CONFIRM WHAT IT IS. ITS SCARY FOR HER AND FOR ME. WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

Hi
I recently had a biopsy. I guess depending on what kind you have and where the lump is located-it could be different. BUT it honestly wasn't as bad as I thought. I was so scared and nervous as well. There is a little ***** for the numbing medication and then everything else was a little pressure.
Afterwards, the doctor recommended..15 min on of ice and 45 minutes off..this really helped...that and tylenol...it minimized swelling....sleeping was a little uncomfortable but in a couple of days I was totally fine...

The waiting is the hard part.
Good luck and keep us posted.
