Fibroadnoma Sugery

by bassoonbear, Jan 28, 2002 12:00AM
I am due to undergo surgery to remove a fibroadnoma that is 2.5 inches in diameter.  Could anyone tell me what the surgery is like, what I can expect pre and post op. and what kind of time off I might need to recover?  Also do doctors generally use local anesthesia or general for this size of lump.

Thank you for your help!

Dear bassoonbear:  I suspect that you are having a lumpectomy.  Your doctor should discuss the details with you as these may differ from doctor to doctor.  In most cases, general anesthesia is used.  In terms of post-operative and "time-off" expectations, it will depend upon the procedure, the type of work you do, and how fast you tend to recover.
