Fibrocystic Breast Disease

I have been suffering from Fibrocystic Breast Disease for 5 years and have become just about immune to all the medications I have taken for mastitis and breast infections. I am 29 years old and a mother of three boys, one of which is a newborn. I have been seriously taken into consideration into finding a breast surgeion who can remove my milk ducts, glands, or whatever needs to be removed (the 20 bags from each of my breasts) to prevent anymore infections and cysts. I have tried seeing three doctors here in Michigan and all three refused me because I have not reached the stage of cancer.  I don't want cancer to have surgery. I am a school teacher, mother of three beautiful boys and I want my life to be healthy and stable. I have suffered much from this disease and I want surgery. Can someone please refer me to a breast surgeion who can help me? I live in Michigan and am willing to travel out of state for this surgery if I have to. I also prefer a female breast surgeon.

You mention two different conditions ... Fibrocystic Breast Condition effects about 50% of women and results in breast cysts or Fibroadenomas which in turn are related to the hormone levels in the body. This can increase your risk for developing mastitis however. As far as the mastitis I doubt you will find a surgeon who will do the type of procedure you mention. Neither of these conditions are an indication of cancer though. There are various treatments available for mastitis and also some home remedies that are of some help. The one surgical option would be a ductal lavage performed after finding the plugged duct which would prevent the formation of an abscess. Breast feeding is one of the treatments for mastitis but I'm sure you are aware of this.  Congrats on the new baby !!
