Fibrocystic Breast Lumps

I had regular mammogram in January 2008, as I detected a small lump under my right nibble.  They also performed an ultrasound.  They confirmed fibrocystic breast disease.  They also took a needle aspiration biopsy, which also came back negative.  I had another mammogram and ultrasound July 2008, everything came back negative, but now at the end of August this lump under my nipple has enlarged and is very painful, it was just before my period that it has enlarged so quickly.  The doctor wants me to go see the breast surgeon, which I am now waiting for an appointment.  I am a 51 year old female, and I am experiencing memopause.  I also have a slight fever off and on and my doctor said it could be due to the menopause.  Could they have misdiagnosed wrong, I am worried that it could be inflammatory breast cancer.

Your symptoms don't sound like inflammatory breast cancer, and since the lump got worse before your period it must be related to your hormone cycle. Maybe it is just a really big cyst. Some fibrocystic women really tend toward the cystic side. My fibrocystic breasts are more fibro than cystic.
Try not to think of worst case scenarios. The hormone response is in your favor as far as a benign finding. I hope your appt with breast specialist is soon so you don't have too much time to worry.
