Fibrocystic breasts and fibroids on ovaries

Are fibroid tumors of ovaries and breasts related?  I have both going on at the same time, and need testing done on both simultaneously.  I am 1 year into menopause, and started spotting today, 2 days before I am supposed to have a transvaginal ultrasound done (second) to look into fibroids and cystic looking ovary seen on last ultrasound.  I am also having breast biopsy done on March 11 for cluster of calcifications   Nervous about both things.  Any advice?

Hi Tallgirl511. I'm 43 yet to menopause but did not give birth and have family history of breast cancer-maternal grandmother and aunt died of breast cancer. My mother had also removed fibroadenoma lump in year  2006. Due to hormone problem, right now, I cut down on caffeine, diary products, fried foods and eat evening primrose oil and ground flaxseed. Hope this will help me to reduce breast pain as I have also suffered from fibrocystics breast disease.

Best Regards
Lilian

Hi!!!  Wish I could help you with advice.  I "feel" there might be a connection, because hormones seem to affect both, but others feel there is no connection.  I did read that certain people who carry a specific Gene, found out with special bloodwork done by gynocolgists, are more likely to get ovarian, breast and also colon cancers. I never had the test, but my father died of colon cancer and my mom has breast cancer (DCIS). Increased estrogen also plays a part.  Are you in menopause yet?  I thought I was. but just got my period after 1 whole year of not having it, so now am wondering if the upsurge in hormones is behind all of this.  Not sure if this is a real period or if it is due to something else going on.  Will find out eventually.  I did read that fibroids can cause bleeding that is not always related to cancer.  Good luck Lilian...keep in touch!!

Hi Jerry170

I'm having the same problem with you. I had three breast lumps removed in Jan08 & again in Feb'09. I had also endometrial polyps being removed in Nov'08. I have also two ovary cysts and two uterus fibroids still under observation.

Just wonder if all these due to hormone imbalance and excess estrogen?

Japdip, please advise and thanks in advance.
Lilian

Clustered microcalcifications seen within the breast are not in any way similar to ovarian cysts.  Calcifications when observed in groups or clustered are an incidation that the breast tissue is reacting to some abnormality within the breast; not usually a cyst but often some benign condition. Breast cysts are usually easily defined by mammogram or ultrasound. Ovarian cysts are not related to breast cysts or to cysts in any other part of the body.     Regards ....
