Fibroid Adenoma Biopsy

Fibroid Adenoma Biopsy

I am 19 years old and recently found a lump in my breast. I went to the obgyn and had a exam. She referred me to get an ultrasound to determine if it was a cyst or a fibroid Adenoma. They confirmed that it was a fribroid adenoma. My older sister also had this exact same thing and had to have it biopsied-my grandmother also has Breast cancer, though. So now they're telling me I have to have it biopsied but I really would rather not because I've gotten opinions from a doctor I know and other sources tell me the chances of having breast cancer at 19 are extremeley slim. I would be fine with not having it done. Do you think it is necessary-especially since my sister had it? Could it possibly be genetic or linked within in the family in some way?

Fibrocystic Breast condition affects nearly half of all women and these tumors are benign. If a biopsy is recommended I would certainly follow thru with it since this is the only way to be 100% certain of the true nature of any breast lump. Experience of the Radiologist can certainly indicate that a finding is most likely something specific but a biopsy is never a bad idea. The fact that your Sister had a Fibroadenoma has nothing to do with the lump that you have ... I'd rather be safe than sorry ....  Regards
