Fluid discharge - seroma?

Fluid discharge - seroma?

Dear all,

My mother had breast cancer and was operated. the wound healed. It is one year hence and a small lymph appeared. after she was tested then suddenly a large swelling started appearing below that. it became really large and opened up and fluid started coming out of it (No smell). After a one week of fluid discharge now the fluid has a real foul smell. The foul smelling fluid has been coming out for a week. The fluid is generally light yellow, sometimes a red and greenish tinge comes in that? What is it? is smell bad? are there any instrument to collect this fluid?

Has your Mother seen her Surgeon about this problem? If not I would strongly suggest that she do so ASAP. A seroma sometimes forms shortly after surgery. You say the large lump appeared after she was "tested"; by this do you mean a biopsy was done ?? From you description of the drainage now it certainly sounds like an infection and this needs immediate attention from either her Surgeon or another Physician. Please see someone for treatment of this problem.   Regards ..
