Focal Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia

My Mom is 75 and a recent 4-needle biopsy had 2 return with the title condition.  Her GYN suggested she consult a surgeon for a possible surgical biopsy.  The surgeon wants to check the cells.  My thought is that any "invasive" cells should be removed.  What is the concensus on this condition?

Hi,

In a normal surgical excisional biopsy, the surgeon removes the whole suspicious area leaving a clear margin of tissue behind the original site. This is to ensure that all the "bad" tissue is removed. Does this answer your question?

Still, you should ask your surgeon/GYN for more information on this and whether the current biopsy would involve removing all the tissue.

Let us know how your mother is doing and what your doctors tell you. You may also contact us if you have any other queries.

Hope this helps.
