Foods to take with Xeloda

by iduj, Aug 19, 2002 12:00AM
I've just begun to take Xeloda and am unsure as to what foods I can take with it.  I've heard that anything with folic acid and/or calcium in it may render Xeloda ineffective.  If this is true, could you give me an idea of what foods I can eat before I take it?  I am NOT a breakfast eater and so can't eat eggs, or pancakes or cereal.  Would a banana and muffin be okay?  How about yogurt or a breakfast bar.  I'm really lost as to what to eat when I take the Xeloda and would really appreciate your help!  What is important - fat grams, number of calories, carbs?  Thanks so very very much!

Dear Peeshe:  I have reviewed the package insert for Xeloda and the only information I can find regarding things to avoid are Coumadin (a blood thinning medication) and folic acid (supplementation).  Folic acid supplements may increase the side effects.  You should eat what you can - with the goal of achieving a balanced diet.  No special focus unless you have other dietary problems (such as weight loss or diabetes). Attached is the patient insert that is provided by the manufacturer http://www.rocheusa.com/products/xeloda/ppi.html
