Hair regrowth after Chemo

by Curly1, Feb 18, 2006 12:00AM
I completed Chemotherapy almost 14 months ago and my hair is not really coming back as expected.  The hair on my head is very thin and my eyebrows are very sparse.  Is this normal or is there something I can do to help with the regrowth?  Thanks

Dear CURLY1:  In general, hair growth will begin fairly immediately once chemotherapy has stopped.  The time that it takes does vary widely though.  Although in most cases a "full" head of hair will return, some women find that the growth is less than expected.  It is well documented that the "new" hair is often different from the "old" hair.  There is not much you can do to promote growth.  If you are perming or using hair dye, this could further damage the growth.  These are good things to avoid during the regrowth process.
