Hard painful lump in nipple

My right nipple has a somwhat large and extremely painful lump under it . It has been coming and going for a while now and lasts a few weeks at a time. I have gone to the doctor for it once and they told me it was just an affected gland without really doing anything but feeling it. Should I get another opinion or does it sound like just a gland problem. I am worried because Breast cancer does run in my family and I am almost 30 now .

Given your background of breast cancer, I understand your concern about this, and I agree with you that further tests may be necessary.
But to give you an idea, these lumps in the nipples are more commonly due to blocked glands on the areolar surface, or lacteals underneath the nipples. Sometimes, the montgomery glands can be infected causing a hard painful lump that would resolve in time, or would respond with antibiotic treatment.
Nevertheless, I believe it is about time you had your screening exams done such as mammograms and/or ultrasound of the breast, just to make sure this is nothing serious.
