Hematomas and radiologists

I have had many biopsies over the last several years.  I have had surgical biopsies, needle biopsies and stereotactic biopsies.  In addition, I have had a lumptectomy for breast cancer.  My lumptectomy site healed very well and my surgical biopsies for calcifications have healed very well, all done by the same breast surgeon.  In fact, up until now, you would hardly notice that I have had anything done to either breast as I heal rather well.  However, the radiolgist who performed two stereotactic biopsies on me over the years has left me with hematomas. After the first one was performed I had a hematoma about the size of a gumball.  That lasted for approx. 5 mos.  This last stereotactic biopsy 3 mos ago initially left me purple bruising for about a month and a hematoma the approximate size of a peach which after 3 mos. is now the approximate size of a walnut.  As I know that my skin heals well, is this the sign of an inexperienced radiologist or what?  I know of many women who have had this procedure and have not been left with anything like this.  As it is 3 mos. already and my breast still isnt back to normal, im beginning to wonder if it truly makes a difference as to who does the biopsy?

Developing a hematoma after biopsy isn't all that unusual. Sometimes they are left alone but it takes a long time for them to be absorbed .... aspiration is no doubt the way to treat this. May I add in the future it would be better if you would post your questions as a "new question" rather than a comment on another post. We don't often read comments and your question might be ignored. Regards ....

I just had 2 biopsies in both breasts.  I have extremely fibrocystic breasts.  I have developed a hematoma in both breasts and fluid build-up, which the doctor wants to asperate, in one breast.  Has anyone ever heard of this happening?  I have searched the web and found little to nothing about this.

Hi,  actually i dont bruise easily.  I understand that certain areas are more sensitive but both of these biopsies were done in completely different parts of the breast.  I also think this particular dr. is one of the few that doesnt recommend ice .  Just pressure and lots of gauze on the area with a tight bra.  Maybe thats the problem.

Thanx.

It could be the Radiologists but it could also be the particular area that's being biopsied ... vessels that would be punctured along the way. I wouldn't blame it all on the Radiologists but the vascularity of the area. With surgical procedures there is a method to control the bleeding that occurs but with a closed procedure there isn't much that can be done. Do you bruise easily ??
