Herceptin used with Taxol and Carboplatin

Herceptin used with Taxol and Carboplatin

My 32 year old daughter is being treated with Herceptin in combination with her chemo drugs. What are the side affects of herceptin? Within 24 hours of recieving this drug she had such back pain, she could not walk.  I know there is heart complications to be aware of but are there others?

Dear Worriedmom, The side effects of Herceptin are generally well tolerated.  There have been noted increases in anemia, diahhrea, infusion related fever + chills, and as you mentioned heart complications.  These are generally seen when used in combination with other chemotherapy medications.  The common chemotherapy drugs that may be given with Herceptin are Taxol, or an anthracycline such as adriamycin.  Either of these can cause back pain, as well as generalized achiness particularly the Taxol.  Make sure your daughter
