I am 32 and having an U/S guided core biopsy

I am having the biopsy first thing in the morning at 7:15 at the breast center.  I was told that i have 3 solid tumors and that they need to go in and take tissue samples along with the biopsy.  My question is what is the out come of the core biopsy?  Does it hurt, should I wear a sports bra rather than a wire bra, and when watching what should I watch for, for any cancer indications?  Any and all answers and thoughts are appreciated.  I thank you for reading and replying if you do so.  God Bless Sabrina

Hi Sabrina,
You will be awake during the procedure, but your breast will be numbed with a local anesthetic. Your doctor will locate the lump with guidance from imaging technology. Your doctor will insert the core needle through your skin into the lump to take tissue samples.To ensure accuracy of results, three to six samples will be taken....the procedure is between 97 and 100% accurate in giving a diagnosis. You should expect to feel some pressure during the procedure, but not real pain..However, be sure to let your doctor know if your discomfort is excessive. The procedure is over in a matter of minutes, you may have some bruising at the needle sites, but no scars. You will be able to return to work or home right away.
Wearing a good supportive bra can help as well as applying ice to the breast if you have any bruising at the needle sites.
You don't really have to watch anything for now.You will get the pathology results of your biopsy within a week's time and depending on the results you will be told by your doctor what has to be done next.Wishing you an uneventful biopsy tomorrow, and may the pathology results state" benign findings"...God Bless you too and good luck.
