I don't believe this is normal, but I have been wrong before

I am hoping some ladies with more experience can help guide me.  I am 31 years old with a family hx of BC.  For that reason i am religious about doing a monthly BSE.  About 6 months ago i found a hard oblong lump at the 9 o'clock position.  I thought that it was probably my ribs that I was feeling and left it at that.  Well the last couple of months "this hard rib" has started to grow.  It is now by my own self measurements 4x5cm.  I went yesterday for Mammo and ultrasound and nothing showed up.  The ultrasound tech even commented that she could feel some sort of ridge.  The only results were two benign cysts (one in each breast) that I didn't event feel because I have fibrous breast tissue and they were deep.

I guess my question is two fold...First, if this is a "ridge" what is it and why is it growing? And second, should I push for a biopsy?

I would greatly appreciate anyone who could offer up some advise or experience!

You're welcome .... and "good for you" with the Race in October. I am fortunate to participate in the Race in Peoria, IL; the home of Susan G. Komen. It's always a huge event there and either Susie's sister or one of her children is the welcoming speaker. Keep asking until you find out what that ridge is that you're feeling. When you see your Dr. just insist that he at least offers an opinion.  Good Luck ..

No my doctor did not do a clinical exam.  He just sent me straight for the mommogram.  I think I will ahve to call him out on it when I see him again a week from today.

I just got concerend when I read that some women were diagnosed by biopsy after nothing showed on a mammo or ultrasound.

Again thank you, I applaud all of you corageous survivors and your willingness to help the scared and confused.

I will be participating in my communities race for the cure on October 4th and I am proud to say that I ahve raised over $500 so far.

This is an evil disease and it needs to be stopped!

This may sound like a strange question but have you been to your Physician for a clinical breast exam ?? If nothing was seen on either mammogram or ultrasound it must not be within the breast. Perhaps an exam by your Physician would yield an answer or at least an opinion. I can't feel ribs through my breast ... could it be a muscle type thing ?? I think (if it hasn't been done already) a hands on exam by a Physician would be a good choice.
