Post- surgery after effects are harder than they expected??? What's up with that?

I think I'd post again but I'd put Latissimus Flaps in the subject line and women who have chosen that reconstruction will respond.

I had DIEP FLAP which left my muscles in place but moved my tummy skin and tissue up to totally reconstruct what cancer took away from me. The recovery time is about 6 weeks and the first 5 are somewhat interesting to say the VERY least :)

What exactly is the issue that makes it harder than you expected?

Best wishes.

Anyone else think Lat Flaps were MUCH harder to recover from than expected? I am nearly post -op one year, and I still feel lousy. I wish I never chose this form of reconstruction. I did bilateral lat flaps, and the pain and tightness has been unbearable. They tell you 6 - 8 weeks to recover. That couldn't have been further from the truth for me. I don't think I will ever fully recover from this ordeal. I would never do it again. I wasn't eligible for DIEP--and tissue expanders would have been problematic, due to previous ration on one side, but the tightness of this operation is horrendous. Anyone have a similar problem? Did it ever get better? I am willing to work hark hark...do whatever it takes to feel better.

I would like to second SueYoung55's suggestion:

If you will start a  WHOLE NEW THREAD, and give it the title, "Lat Flaps--Harder than expected?" or something to that effect, you will be more likely to attract the attention of people with knowledge, experience, or interest in that topic, and get a good discussion going.

Best wishes...

p.s. By this, we mean click on "Post a question" at the top the page, and copy your question there, with a  new title such as the one we  suggested, in order to better reflect your subject matter and attract replies from others interested in that issue.
