I need more information

Hi, I am 56 years old and have been diagnosed with breast cancer, so far I have had a lumpectomy and sentinal node surgery, i received my results today and my doctor tells me that my breast is clear but as a small amount of cancer has been detected in both lymph nodes and that i now have to have all of my lymph nodes removed. I have gone from a grade 1 cancer to a grade 2 cancer and have been told that it is an invasive ductal carnicoma. I also have to have a ct scan and a bone scan.
My mother who is 81 was diagnosed with the same type of cancer earlier this year but unluckily it has spread to her lungs and is inoperable.
What can I expect now ?

I am sorry to hear that both you and your mother have been diagnosed with cancer!

It is good that you got clear margins with the lumpectomy. Since you have some degree of lymph node involvement, it is likely that chemo and radiation will be recommended.

You will learn more about what to expect after you have completed the additional tests. This information will further define your stage, and that information, along with the grade of your tumor and your ER/PR/HER2 status, will help your treatment team arrive at specific recommendations for your case.

If your spread is limited to a few lymph nodes and no signs of distant metastis are found, your outlook could be a good deal more favorable than is the case with your mother.

Best wishes...
