I think I have breast cancer....Help!

Ok, so I am 36 years old and had a hysterectomy about eight years ago.  I've been on 2mg. of estrogen since that time.  About two months ago I started having random sharp shooting pains in my right breast.  I had been swimming more so I didn't think to much about it.  However, I still continued to have the pain even well after I had stopped swimming.  Then I did a breast exam and found a couple of small round lumps just behind the areola.  Again, I dismissed it because I thought it was just me or that I was imagining things.....then a few weeks later the random pain just stopped.  I checked the same lump again and noticed it was definately larger.  I also noticed that underneath the same breast was an indentation...about the size of a large marble.  I called my doctor and she has suggested that we get diagnostic mammogram.  She then told me who she would recommend to biopsy it....this has made me slightly freaked!!!  Has anyone had the dimpling and it not be cancer???  Also, my doctor noticed that the breast that has the lump and the dent is also smaller than the other one...I never noticed that before but she's right...it is.

Hi,
When there is a lump in the breast,it can cause a dimple because it pulls the skin inward.Dimpling does not necessarily mean that cancer is present. Also breast pain is rarely associated with breast cancer.
Fibrocystic breast changes can present with dimples on the skin and swelling or tenderness. Also localized infection can be a possibility. However I agree with your doctor to proceed with a biopsy as more serious causes such as cancer should really be ruled out.
Try not to think too far ahead by thinking that you have the disease.Wait until the  biopsy is done...You never know, things may turn up okay after all.
Wishing you all the best and "Benign" results!

Hi,
When it comes to Cancer you WANT to know if you have it.  The quicker it's found the faster something can be done about it.  We all fear the unknown.  Better to know what you are dealing with then be in the dark on this one.  Take one day at a time and work with what it brings.  Wishing you good biopsy results.

Patsy is right, Annie. I can't remember who said this, but I heard it on the radio the other day: Don't deal with hypotheticals,  Deal with the ifs when the ifs come to your doorstep." I thought it was great advice, especially when you're dealing with breast issues. Remember that about 80% of biopsies come back negative. Take care of yourself, be vigilant, get the recommended testing, wait for the results (I KNOW it's hard---been there, done that) and then deal with "what is" and not the "what ifs".
We'll be thinking of you and wishing you benign results. Please let us know how you're doing, if you wish, by adding a post to this thread.
Sending you a hug from Michigan (       ),
