I agree with you that it would have been more appropriate to refer you to a dermatologist rather than a breast surgeon. I also think this is not breast cancer related. Your doctor probably thinks a breast surgeon would naturally know best, but I think it' slightly 'overkill'.

This is the one type of breast cancer where there are symptoms and this is how it is usually diagnosed. What you have posted seems more like a skin problem but I'm sure the Breast Surgeon will clear this up for you. The skin on the breast is the same as skin on any other part of the body and subject to the same problems. IF IBC is suspected then a skin biopsy could be done to prove or disprove this diagnosis. As a rule the breast becomes very hot, red and swollen but as we all know there are exceptions to most every rule. Regards .....
