I have had removed a 1.3mm IDC grade 1 consisting of trabeculae and acinar-type structures dissecting through bundles of collagen a mild degree of nuclear atypia with infrequent mitopses no assoc. in-situ identified  extention 8mm and 11mm of lateral and medial margins inferior and superior margins 1.5mm of deep margin opposite the cavity to the chest wall, shows fibrocystic changes with benign microcalcifications within areas of adenosisI am 45 years of age my mother diagnosed of breast cancer at 38 had mastectomy and died at 42 years of age my sister currently diagnosed at 49 years of age had mastectomy however sister had lobular I have had a mastectomy recomended your opinion please I am of small frame with a size 10A breast my breast cancer did not show on a mamogram (mammogram) or ultrasound I am currently seeking to have a MIR and PET scan out of local area before under going mastectomy and lymph gland removal for investigating.Your advise of treatment options please.

Hi,
A mastectomy and lymph gland removal would be advisable just as your surgeon has suggested. You have a strong family history of breast cancer and chances should not be taken. You could still go ahead with the MRI and PET scan so that you are convinced. Even if the lesions are benign their removal is the most recommended option alongwith a definite diagnosis establishment by the pathologist.
