Indeterminate Calcifications

I'm 25 years old, had my first mammogram yesterday for a fibroadenoma in my left breast.  The adenoma turns out to be just what we thought it was, no problem.  The radiologist did find some indeterminate calcifications in the right breast.  I'm scheduled for a stereotatic biopsy today at 3:00.  I'm terrified that this is cancer.  There is a history of breast cancer in my family - grandmothers on both sides.  I know I'm really young, but it's still scary.  What should I expect for the biopsy?  I'm preparing myself for the worst.

Biopsy went ok, and my results came back as DCIS (ductal carcinoma insitu). I'm pretty upset right now but trying to cope! Hopefully everything will be alright!

Just got my biopsy results.  Benign! :-)  I do have a very small ductal papilloma that I may or may not have removed at a later date, depending on whether or not it gives me problems.  Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes!  I'm still praying for everyone on here still waiting for test results.

I had the stereotactic biopsy on Tuesday afternoon.  The biopsy itself was okay, my biggest complaint was how uncomfortable the table was!  It was a long 40 minutes.  Still no results from pathology yet - but hopefully I'll hear something this afternoon.  The doctor who performed the biopsy said he would be very surprised if it came back malignant.  I had a fibroadenoma removed from the same area on the right a couple of years ago and he thinks the calcification could be a result from the surgical trauma.  Has anyone else heard of this?  I'm crossing my fingers and praying hard that this is nothing and I can just get on with my life.  The not knowing is so much worse than any of the tests!  I haven't been able to sleep or eat the past two days and I find it increasingly difficult to concentrate at work.  I just want to know!

Thanks for everyone's prayers and well wishes.  I'll post an update when I find out the pathology results.

My daughter was diagnosed with a quite large fibroadenoma also in her left breast 3 years ago at the age of 17. They did recommend her getting it removed, which she still hasnt. I am hoping that after my news and her baby is born that I can talk her into having it removed as if heaven forbid later in life she gets a breast malignancy, they may not see it as the fibroadenoma may block a true malignancy from being seen. Please get it removed. Ask if they will please remove it while they are already in doing the biopsy. Its a small inscision and can be removed in a matter of minutes. I wish you well and please update us. Im praying for everyone on this board. Good luck to you.

I am 42 and i just had a sterotatic biopsy on May 4 for the same calcifications. I got my results back yesterday and they were benign. The wait is the worst part other than the biospy itself. Say a prayer and try to remain calm. The two day wait took its toll on me.

All microcalcifications do NOT reveal cancer as the cause. Many biopsies done for these calcifications come back as benign. Although a family history of BC does increase you risk; familial breast cancer only represents about 1% of all breast cancers diagnosed.  Good luck with your biopsy ......
