Interpret Mammogram Findings

"Bilateral Diagnostic Mammogram.  Palpable Lump Left Breast 5-6 o'clock and Right Breast Lump 7 o'clock."  What doest this mean?  This is a report sent to me after my mammogram, which is what my doctor told me before I had it done.  Follow-up or benign enough to not even warrant any further report to me?

Hi,
Your  diagnostic mammogram shows you have a lump in each breast. These lumps could be cysts or Fibroadenoma both benign in nature. The clock numerals are just added to show where the breast lumps are located
I am sure that a BIRADS score was added on your report and also a recommendation as to when a follow up is needed.
BIRADS is a quality control system, used by radiologists after interpreting a mammograms or ultrasound.
This system allows radiologist to categorize the findings by numbers. The scores go from 0 to 5.The higher the number the more suspicious is the abnormality. If your score is 1 or 2,it means that the findings are benign and you have nothing to worry about. If it's a 3 it means that it's probably benign. But if the score is 4 or 5,then a biopsy is definitely recommended.
So,if you don't know the score, you could call the radiology department to find that out. Also you could see your doctor to get detailed information regarding the results of your diagnostic mammogram and when a follow up would be needed.Okay?.
Best wishes...

Thanks for responding so quickly.  I didn't see anything on the reports about IRADS, so I can ask my doc about those.  Too much to take in right now.  Again, thanks.

It really sounds like you didn't get the complete report of your mammogram.
As zouzi said, there should definitely be a conclusion by the radiologist who reviewed your films, recommendations for the next step (follow up in six months, additional testing such as ultrasound, MRI or biopsy, etc.) and a BIRADS score. Hopefully, you'll get the complete report from your doctor real soon and know what the next step is. Please try not to worry to much about the "what ifs" as the majority of lumps turn out to be benign. I know it's easier said than done, but try to stay positive until you know "what is" and you can deal with that one step at a time. I'm hoping you'll get a benign report and wishing you well. Please let us know how you're doing if you wish by adding a note to this thread---we do care.
Hugs,

I thank you for responding.  After I got your comments as well as everyone comment I began reading more in depth, and I found it.  "Mammogram BD-RADS:  2 Benign." "IMPRESSION:  BENIGN."  Further work-up with clinical correlation is recommended."  Still okay?  I hope so.

Of course you are okay Chris! Congratulations! :)
Category 2, simply means that your breasts are same size and shape and tissue looks normal. Any cysts, fibroadenomas, or other masses appear benign.
Follow up is always recommended, even when the results are benign. It is standard procedure to make sure that no changes have occurred .
Just relax and be happy, I am also very happy for you !
Take care ...
