Is it cancer? Should I be concerned?

I am 26 years old with no history of breast cancer in my family.  I've had a chronic cough which my dr. said was asthma.  I am having horrible gynecological issues that are not being fixed with medicine.  I have had recurrent chest pain in a specific place in the lower left quadrant of my chest and also shooting pains in that breast.  I have had other spreading pains in my chest and other breast, but nothing recurrent.  The chest pain has been every day (many times a day) for 6 months.  My dr. saw that side of my rib cage stood out more than the other and said it was scholiosis.  He said to take Aleve for the chest pain.  That it could be arthritis where the breast bone joins to the cartilage.  I am somewhat skeptical.  I'm afraid it's something serious.  But what?  I am confused and distressed and depressed and in pain.  Someone please help me!

I don't know what is going on, but your symptoms do not really sound very much like breast cancer. I  can understand though that you would be scared. Asthma is a scary disease, and anything around the chest and heart is scary in my experience.
have you had any tests done at all, i.e a chest x-ray?

I also wanted to tell you that half of all bc cases happen in people with no family history of bc. I am not saying that to  worry you but only as a factual piece of information.

Most often bc does not present with any painful symptoms, especially in the early stages. people who where diagnosed though, sometimes later say that they generally did not feel well before they were diagnosed. Yet, your symptoms sound quite dramatic , and  if you have been coughing a lot, it often happens that the whole general chest area, or specific areas  begin to hurt. (i.e. muscular spasms, and pain in-between the ribs)

You should see your doctor again, or another one for a second opinion if you are very worried and nothing has helped. It's horrible to live with the fear of the unknown, I understand that from personal experience.

best wishes, Kat
