Is there such an Injection available?

Is there such an Injection available?

Hello Sir/Madam....
This is a relative of one of the breast cancer patient. The patient is in her third stage of Breast cancer and is currently undergoing a Chemotherapy treatment in India. She is already thru with Chemo 2 times and is left with the last chemo(3rd time) that will B conducted next month after which(21 days later) she will have to undergo a surgery. The Doctor says that, the lump has shrunk by 30% its previous size. We R all looking forward that she gets back her health.
Meanwhile I was told by one of my friends that, there is a injection thats available in USA, that when used one time, helps in the total recovery from breast cancer. Do mail me whether such an injection or medicine is available now in USA? If yes, where can we get it from? Do take the time out and let me know about this. Am really desperate and very much worried.
Also do tell me whether, she willgain her health back completely? Cant stand the thought that she is not going to recover. Hoping for a early response......
Thanking you,
Sincerely Your's,
Shannu

Dear Shannu, It sounds like your friend is recieving neoadjuvant treatment which is chemotherapy given before surgery in order to shrink the tumor so that it can then be removed by surgery.  She may also recieve more chemotherapy after recovery from surgery as part of entire treatment.

I have not heard of any cancer treatment that is given as a one time shot that leads to the total recovery of breast cancer.  I am wondering if your friend is talking about what is called colony stimulating factors that help in the recovery of the white blood cell count after chemotherapy? These are given in the form of an injection to help to speed the recovery of a type of white blood cell, the neutrophil, that is one of the body's defenses against infection.  The medication called filgrastim (generic) and is given as a series of injections after each cycle of chemotherapy.  Recently a long acting type had been tested, called Pegfilgrastim.  This is given as a one time injection after each cycle of chemotherapy rather than as a series of injections.
