Dear go go, Basically what is meant is that with the excision of the left breast mass - cancer was present.  There is evidence that not all of the cancerous tissue was removed with this biopsy (tumoral tissue involves inked margins).  Also although the main tumor mass was removed evidence of other separate microscopic cancerous nodules are seen in the specimen.  All of this would indicate that further surgery would be recommended in order to remove the entire cancerous area.

The gross description only describes what the specimen looks like before being closely examined under the microscope.  Other information that is still pending ER/PR and HER 2 status which will be helpful information in terms of further treatment planning.
