Kids say the darndest things!

I had to share this and I hope you don't mind.

When I went through my treatments last year, I lost 100% of my hair. Prior to cancer I had long, red (thanks to Ms Clairol), curly hair down to my waist. My hair is now very short and pure white. During chemo I went au-natural, bald as a babies butt and it didn't bother me, or my boss or co-workers. My co-worker's young son had seen me before, during and finally after treatment. Her 9 yr old son Seth came to work with her last week and he kept staring at me. Finally he came up to me and he said, "Ms. Sue, is that a wig?" I said "no, it's not a wig, does it make me look old?" He nodded his head yes. I asked "do you remember when I was bald?" and he again nodded yes, and then he said to me..." I thought it would come back red" to which I replied "I was hoping so too!" Kids really do say the darndest things!

I laughed with him and I laugh every time I think about what he said. He's such a little man and absolutely adorable! I got so tickled when he was staring at me and when he finally asked what was on his mind it was all I could do to not fall on the floor laughing! Kids crack me up :)

I kind of like the white hair. My sister and I went through chemo at the same time and both ended up with white hair. She's colored hers. I left mine... I look older but.. It's like having a clean start.. no more roots to take care of lol

So the kid said what both you and he thought, naturally? That your hair would grow back like it was. And he thought maybe you were wearing a wig because it looked not like your hair before.

Are you surprised that he was honest, and logical? It doesn't sound mean to me at all what he said but rather affectionate.

I think your hair will/may change again after some time. mine did. It never turned just like before, but the grey and white didn't stay like it was and my natural color is at least halfway there and I no longer look as old, either. I remember looking really old for some time, too. Good luck and best to you, kat
