L nipple yellow discharge, now bloody 2 weeks after norm mammo

I am a 25 year old female who has never been pregnant and has a family history of breast cancer in my paternal grandmother and paternal great aunt (grandmother's sister).

I have been monitoring a spontaneous, yellowish to clear discharge coming from my left breast since April. I never try to 'encourage' it myself, rather it spontaneously appears/stains my bras and night shirts on a daily basis. I started seeking 'treatment' for it in beginning to mid June as follows: Initial appointment with primary care doctor who did breast exam and ran bloodwork for thyroid and prolactin plus CBC, all normal. he referred me to my ob/gyn for further exam; saw ob/gyn within 2 weeks of primary care doctor - he did a breast exam, took a sample of the discharge to send to the lab (no signs of cancerous cells) and then sent me for a mammogram a week later. had mammogram on july 12th, including an ultrasound due to dense breast tissue. I was told both imaging results came out normal .

It has been 2 weeks since the imaging and the discharge had seemed to lessen over the last couple days leading up to my period, which started yesterday. Ironically, the same day my period started, the discharge turned to a bloddy/rust color.

Should I call my doctor immediately or wait til my period is over and see if it continues? From research, I understand that this could be a sign of an intraductal papilloma and that cancer is unlikely considering my age. Given all the examinations within the past month I am not sure how to appraoch the changes/situation. I am moving from Columbus to Cleveland this weekend, so that complicates things more, as I will need to find new doctors. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi,
There could be various causes for spontaneous nipple discharge.
Some possible causes of nipple discharge are intraductal papilloma (a wartlike growth on the lining of the duct). It can erode and bleed causing a bloody discharge.      Cancer is rarely the cause of discharge and only a very low percentage of all spontaneous unilateral bloody discharges are cancerous.

Other abnormal causes of nipple discharge might be infection, or abscess.
If you are terribly concerned, consult your doctor (preferably a breast specialist) for further testing as soon as you find it possible to do so.
Take care and best wishes...
PS: On your profile page it states that you are a male.See if you can edit it since you are obviously a female. :)
