Large hematoma

Two weeks ago I had core biopsies that the procedure did not go so well and I developed a large hematoma.  Will warm compresses help the body to reabsorb the clot?  Anything else I can do to facilitate the process?

Thanks,
Marty

The warm compresses is the usualy recommendation to aid in the absorption of a hematoma. Be advised that this may be a rather slow process and at times it won't be completely absorbed. Time & Compresses; that's about it.    Regards ...

Dont be discouraged.  Both of my biopsies took approx 6 mos. for hematomas to go away.  The larger the longer it will take apparently.  The last one was the size of an orange.  Now, it is almost 6 mos. and it is practically gone with a little trace left.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Dear Marty:  Hematomas are one of the most common complications of breast biopsy.  They will eventually absorb but it can take time (months).  In general, the treatment of hematomas is ice for the first 48 hours followed by heat.   But these are recommendations for hematomas in general and are not specific to post-operative breast hematomas.  We recommend that you check with your surgeon before treating to make certain it is okay in the context of your specific situation.
