Large hemotoma post sterotatic biopsy

Large hemotoma post sterotatic biopsy

I had a steotatic breast biopsy 2 weeks ago for microcalcifications which were negative. At that time I was told that the radiologist had punchured a small artery, hence the extensive bleeding and ecchymosis of the entire breast. I used ice for 2 days and have been wearing binding or a sport bra as advised. The brusing is fading slowly, but I still have a 5 x6 inch (not cm.) mass in my breast which is tender to touch. I had not used an apirin or other medications before or after the procedure. The radiologist doesn't seem concerned. Should I seek additional medical attention or just assume it will resolve slowly?

Dear ejbta:  Hematomas result from an injury to a blood vessel in which there is bleeding into the tissue.  It can take a very long time for these to resolve and they can feel like hard masses in the meantime.  Of course the larger the hematoma, the longer it is likely to take to resolve.  In some cases, it can take months for a hematoma to resolve.

Hi ej,  I had this procedure done back in Feb.  But i only had a small Hemotoma after mine.  Although my calcs were also negative, i was told i had to have surgery to be sure there was nothing in the surrounding area.  they told me the hemotoma would go away on it's own, or the doctor would removeit during the surgery.

i had my surgery a month later and all seems to be going well.  it has now been 10 weeks since surgery and i am still a bit sore, it can take time to heal.

don't be afraid to question the doctor on all this, and if need be, see someone else to get answers if you need them.  i know i was quite nervous about things and went and questioned the surgeon twice on things and then went to my PCP for more answers.

some doctors don't realize, we have not been thru this before, they should give us more info to begin with.  good luck

I also had a biopsy due to microcalcifications in Oct. 01. I still have pain and tenderness in the upper outer quadrant extending into my underarm. I didn't have any major problems. My breast pain is blamed on fibrocystic disease. This area is more bothersome at certain times of the month

the marker was lost in the hemotoma and as a result a lumpectomy is out of the question. DCIS was the biopsy report. Now faced with simple mastectomy . not happy about situation at all. need advise
