Late on my period

by Camsmomme, Aug 28, 2001 12:00AM
Hi. I am 29 years old and was treated for stage 1 bc with 4rounds of A/C.  I managed to maintain my menses through chemo.  My last chemo was 7/6 and my last period was 7/25.  I was due for my next period aug 21st and now I am a week late.  Am I in menopause now?

I have a strong desire for more children.  I thought that since I kept my period through the treatment it would stay and I would remain fertile but now I don't have a period?

Can it return?  what do you think?

thanks

Dear camsmomme, Chemotherapy can cause a woman to go into menopause.   The closer a woman is to natural menopause, the more likely chemotherapy will push them into menopause.   Less than 15 % of women younger than 40 who receive four cycles of AC and 60% of those over 40, will become menopausal.  In younger women it is more likely that chemotherapy- induced menopause will be temporary.   If your menstrual periods return you can still conceive a child.  You will have to see how things go, a one week delay in your cycle does not mean you are in menopause.
